Miscellaneous News and Opinion

The media and public obsession with the ancient Woody Allen allegations (meaning both Allen AND the allegations are ancient) are making matters even worse.

A big settlement was agreed to in a Churchill County School District hazing incident civil suit. The $712,000 is to be split up for medical expenses, attorney's fees, and so forth.

You can bet the bulk of it goes to the lawyer.

A lot of it does. Some details from an article with a paywall, so I had to cut off mid-sentence:

More than four years after a hazing scandal rocked the high school wrestling program, the Churchill County School District has reached a settlement as a result of the incident. According to federal documents filed with the U.S. District Court in Reno, CCSD reached a settlement of $712,500 with Dee Gregory. Of the total, $296,714.14 is for attorney’s fees, $104,670.45 for the victim’s medical expenses, $310,115.14 will be distributed to Gregory and $1,000 to the Gregorys to satisfy disputes with CCSD. The $104,670.45 is subject to a lien by the U.S. Navy, according to the settlement.

Since the incident actually happened, obviously the district was liable.
