News, Etc.

As everybody knows, the search for Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 has shifted some 600-700 miles northeast from where all the debris had been sighted by satellite photos. It's believed the plane could not have flown that far south.

One advantage is that the weather is considerably more mild there than further south.

When the media are owned by billionaires, don't expect their on-air employees to be critical of billionaires' attempts to destroy public education.

Obituary: Former senator and one-time Vietnam War POW Jeremiah A. Denton, Jr., 89, has died at a Virginia Beach, Virginia, hospice. He had been suffering from a heart ailment.

Denton was the first Republican elected to a Senate seat from Alabama since Reconstruction, and he was one of these guys who wore his religion on his sleeve, as I remember. In other words, he was a forerunner of the totally batshit crazy GOP infesting Congress today. However, considering the absolute hell this poor man went through in the prison camps of then-North Vietnam, he can be forgiven. Besides, Denton lasted only one term in the Senate before being defeated in 1986 by turncoat Richard Shelby, who CANNOT be forgiven for switching parties.

Of course "ability grouping" has never gone away from public education here. It's basically what "differentiated instruction" is called now.

I have always railed against the bullshit international comparisons when the US is so much more diverse than countries like Korea and Finland.

_____

There's not a whole lot of difference between the two political parties these days.
