Since SAT/ACT Tests Were Never Designed to Be Predictors of Anything

but only as measures of preparation for college, basically telling admissions officers how much a student may know from what he or she took in high school or what kind of courses that may not be clear on a transcript, no wonder there is a move to get rid of them since the meaning of the tests have been deliberately distorted by "reformers" and the media.

They aren't "intelligence" tests, they aren't predictors of college "success," and they aren't predictors of "success" in life. That has always been the media lie.


And why do we remain addicted to the College Board’s near monopoly on tests? Why do they have an undue influence on college placement? These tests actually violate the basic justification for tests. First, despite the changes, these tests remain divorced from what is taught in high school and what ought to be taught in high school. Second, the test taker never really finds out whether he or she got any answer right or wrong and why. No baseball coach would train a team by accumulating an aggregate comparative numerical score of errors and well executed plays by each player, rating them, and then send them the results weeks later. When an error is committed it is immediately noted; the reasons are explained and the coach, at a moment in time close to the event, seeks to train the player how not to do it again.

Another thing I would like to see gotten rid of are those stupid college rankings. It's fostering intense competition, a lot of it by helicopter parents who want their kids to go to the "best" schools, rather providing information of different schools in different parts of the country.
