Distinguished actor and director Richard Attenborough, 90, has died, according to his son Michael. He had been suffering from poor health for the past several years, ever since he fell six years ago and left him in a wheelchair.
Attenborough made his film debut some 72 years ago in In Which We Serve, a film that I did see a few years ago. A few years later he received acclaim playing a thug in the 1947 film Brighton Rock, a film I will have to see. There aren't very many classic films I haven't seen.
He also had a prominent role in the box office hit Jurassic Park.
Attenborough's director credits include 1982's Gandhi, for which he won the Academy Award for Best Director.
