This is not about a person's particular situation. People who promote the idea that physicians should be accessories to murder need to read the Nuremberg Code to get a clue why this is totally unacceptable. It is ripe for abuse to kill the old, the sick, and the disabled, especially with some running around we should ration health care. This chickenshit woman has the right to kill herself but she has NO RIGHT whatsoever asking a doctor to do her dirty work for her. People need to think through the implications of this. This is not a left-right issue. This is a human rights issue and for the DUTY of the medical profession not to engage in killing patients either directly or indirectly.
I used to buy what the euthanasia lobby peddled, but then I thought of how much the health care landscape has changed over the years. We have people like Zeke Emanuel, Rahm's brother, a believer in rationing health care, saying 75 is a "good age" to die, when it isn't even that old anymore. We have for-profit hospitals, HMOs, and politicians who clearly want to limit health care access for the poor (Medicaid basically does this since few doctors will see them). We have widespread abuse of the aged and disabled, and allowing doctors to kill patients, even indirectly as in "assisted suicide," would open this up for further abuse. There is no way to prevent relatives who are "burdened" with sick, disabled, or old relatives to get a doctor to kill a patient in order to collect a life insurance policy or an inheritance. A number of states have shot down this "assisted suicide" bullshit, and the opposition is throughout the political spectrum.
Oregon needs to repeal this ill-considered law.
