Belmont Stakes Results: He Did It

American Pharoah has EASILY won the Belmont Stakes, running from wire to wire to become the 12th Triple Crown winner.

I am glad I bought those Triple Crown glasses just before today's race.

Now American Pharoah can take his place with Sir Barton, Gallant Fox, Omaha, War Admiral, Whirlaway, Count Fleet, Assault, Citation, Secretariat, Seattle Slew, and Affirmed.

Congratulations to all of this horse's connections. He has Horse of the Year wrapped up already.

His time was 2:26.65, a good time for this race. Frosted came in second, and Keen Ice came in third. Like Affirmed, Seattle Slew, and Secretariat, he was two-year-old champion. He has been the most lightly raced of all of the Triple Crown winners, with eight starts.

He won by five-and-one-half lengths.

Jockey Victor Espinoza, 43, is the oldest jockey to have won the sweep.

Report.

The race:

Secretariat jockey Ron Turcotte couldn't be there for today's race since he is recuperating from injuries from a car crash in March, but he was there in spirit.

As for Bob Baffert, I wrote this about meeting him back in 2008.

He is younger than I thought he was. Of course the white hair throws a person off. He is exactly two years and two days older than I am.
