At the rate things are going, this year could well outdo last year in the obituary department of prominent people. I may have to change the name of this blog to "The Daily Obit."
Anyway, Oscar-nominated actor John Hurt, 77, known for his roles in The Elephant Man and the Harry Potter films, has reportedly died. He died of cancer.
Hurt had been acting for six decades. However, in recent months he was suffering from pancreatic cancer, which is about as bad as it gets.
From the DM:
Hurt rose to fame in A Man For All Seasons in 1966 and then stared in Hollywood blockbusters such as Alien, the adaptation of George Orwell's 1984 and the Harry Potter franchise.
The double Oscar nominee also had prominent TV roles in Doctor Who, the Naked Civil Servant and The Gruffalo.
Hurt recently starred in the Oscar nominated biopic of President John F. Kennedy's widow, Jackie, which is currently showing in cinemas.
Hurt was knighted by the Queen in 2015.
